Should she stay or should she go?
Response to today's story of her most recent absence, which caused the postponement of a teacher disciplinary hearing, has been almost uniformly in disagreement with her. "Parent" sums up the sentiment succinctly: "Martin should be recalled, fired or whatever."
Well, recall currently isn't an option, though state Rep. John Legg, R-New Port Richey, tried less than a year ago to insert language into a bill that would allow it. Two Miami lawmakers might give voters another shot before the end of Martin's term in 2010, though.
Rep. Luis Garcia and Sen. Alex Villalobos have filed legislation that would set up School Board member recall procedures (among other things). The House version had its first reading on Tuesday - the same day Martin missed her most recent meeting. If the bills become law, they'd take effect in July.
