Six local schools fall into "intervene" status on Florida accountability system
Without fanfare, the Florida Department of Education today released the complete list of school accountability ratings for 2010-11 (attached below).
Six local schools landed in the lowest category of "intervene," opening them to a series of changes designed to dramatically improve their academic performance. They are:
Hillsborough - Middleton High School
Pasco - Lacoochee Elementary School
Pinellas - Azalea Middle School, Fairmount Park Elementary School, Gibbs High School, Maximo Elementary School
Of those local schools, only Gibbs was on the "intervene" list last year. Middleton had been in the two years previous, but had come off the list for 2009-10.
In a brief memo to superintendents, interim K-12 chancellor Mike Grego reminded districts that schools receiving a D or F grade and also a rating of "intervene" or "correct II" must inform parents of choices to other, higher performing schools within their districts by Monday. Most districts are closed today because they are having four-day work weeks during the summer.
