Six schools in Pinellas will have extended hours this year

Just a reminder for parents: Six elementary schools in Pinellas County will have extended school hours this year.

School hours at Fairmount Park, High Point and Woodlawn elementaries will be 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., with a 2:30 p.m. dismissal on early release Wednesdays. At Campbell Park, Lakewood and Melrose elementaries school hours will be 9 a.m. and 4:15 p.m., with a 3 p.m. dismissal on Wednesdays.

All of the schools were on the state's 100 lowest performing schools list and will be required to provide an extra hour of reading instruction every day. The school board approved the new hours for Fairmount Park, High Point and Woodlawn in June. They are expected to approve the new hours for Campbell Park, Lakewood and Melrose at the Aug. 21 meeting.

Superintendent John Stewart said in July that staffing changes could be in the works for the six schools. See that story here.

School starts Aug. 20 in Pinellas. Be sure to check with your child's school if there are questions about start times.
