Education news and notes from Tampa Bay and Florida

So you think your child's science homework is hard?

FSU physics professor Paul Cottle does, too.

On his blog, Cottle writes about the absurdity of assigning complex college-level science work to students who are far from ready for it.

The state has confused difficulty for rigor and process for understanding, he argues. And that's not good.

"I ... find some of the work my own kids are being assigned in their science and math classes inexplicable — and I helped write the new science standards that are coming into force in Florida shortly."

Do you share his pain?
