Someone out there really hates school vouchers

15

February

Vote Ordinarily, we wouldn't take space on the Gradebook to point out the results of our ongoing, informal poll up in the left corner. But this one on vouchers in Florida schools has proved so unusual, we decided to explain why.

Of more than 1,100 votes cast, 94 percent have responded that no, state lawmakers should not expand tax-credit vouchers to low-income students. Just for some perspective, most of the polls draw 200 to 400 responses (or even fewer) without such lopsided results.

So what's happening here? The Florida Education Association, that's what.

Yep. The Gradebook poll drew an action alert from the state teachers union, which urged members to vote no. Within minutes of the e-mail's arrival Friday, the tally jumped from about 12 votes to nearly 200 (all no), and the numbers kept climbing all weekend.

To which we say, Thanks, FEA. Keep your members coming back to our blog. We'll have something new for everyone as often as we can.
