Sorry, Imagine. No growth recommended in Pasco for you
Since it opened, the Imagine charter school in Land O'Lakes has grown its enrollment each year. Its leaders have asked to expand yet again in the fall.
Pasco school district leaders are saying no to Imagine's request to add close to 100 more students to the roll.
And it has nothing to do with finances or governance, either.
Rather, the school has yet to find a permanent home, instead renting space in an office complex. And that complex has occupancy restrictions placed upon it by county government. Until the county amends or lifts those restrictions, the district wants to hold the line with Imagine at 548 students.
It's still unclear how enrollment at Imagine will play out, though, with the opening of two new elementary schools nearby. In the past couple of years, most of Pasco's growth has gone straight to charters, but that trend might reverse for 2010-11. Meanwhile, Imagine remains under scrutiny for its structure.
