St. Pete College goes green
The new student services center at St. Petersburg College's Gibbs Campus has been labeled one of Pinellas County's most environmentally friendly buildings.
The U.S. Green Building Council awarded the center its Gold status, the group's second-highest designation.
The building has an industrial ceiling fan that makes the surrounding area feel 8 to 16 degrees cooler, reflective roofing and paving materials, and special parking for fuel-efficient cars and carpoolers.
“The completion of the new student services building demonstrates environmental sensitivity and works hand in hand with the new environmental degree programs recently developed at the college,” Jon White, SPC’s college engineer, said in a news release.
