St. Petersburg College improves minority enrollment

It's been a priority for St. Petersburg College to increase its numbers of minority students.

Looks like the effort is working.

The college reports that enrollment of black students is up 27 percent from a year ago, while Hispanic enrollment is up 20.5 percent. That's in comparison to an overall growth of 8.6 percent. Minority students now make up a quarter of the college population.

"The college has worked hard to attract and keep minority students, and to encourage their academic success," President Bill Law said in a release. "This is an indication that those efforts are paying dividends."
