St. Petersburg senator seeks compromise on parent trigger bill
Our colleagues over at the Buzz are reporting that state Sen. Jack Latvala, a St. Petersburg Republican, is drafting a compromise proposal to the so-called parent trigger bill that would phase in the law on a pilot basis. The proposal would include several restrictions on attempts to use the failing schools to organize new charter schools, Latvala says. Lobbyists for the Florida Education Association call the compromise a red herring and say they have the votes to defeat the bill, which is expected to come up for a close vote tomorrow.
