Stewart hopes Leg follows Scott on ed budget
Pinellas Superintendent John Stewart's response to Gov. Rick Scott's proposed budget:
I am very heartened that Gov. Scott has said he will not sign any budget into law that does not contain more state dollars earmarked for education than were dedicated last year. That commitment shows me that he has indeed listened to educators, to students, and to families, as he promised he would. Additionally, it is encouraging to hear that the governor is pledging more than $1 billion in new state funds versus last year, which will translate to an increase in per student funding, despite the very difficult economic times in which our state finds itself. I trust that the legislators will embrace Gov. Scott’s bold recommendations for the future of our children and our state.
