Stewart recommends new principal for Thurgood

lowery.jpegPinellas Superintendent John Stewart is recommending Solomon Lowery to be the next principal at Thurgood Marshall Fundamental Middle School, according to a brief email Stewart sent to board members this afternoon. "I am confident he will do an excellent job for us," Stewart wrote.

Lowery is an assistant principal at Boca Ciega High School. If approved by the board, he'll replace Dallas Jackson, who left to become principal of a middle school in Hillsborough County.

From the Boca Ciega High web site:

Dr. Lowery has served as an Assistant Principal in Pinellas for 5 years.  However, this is his first year at The Boca Ciega High School.  He is responsible for the School Improvement Program (SIP), Freshman Experience (fX) program, Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), Project Lead The Way (PLTW), Athletics, and  Career Technical Education (CTE) / Center of Excellence programs.

Dr. Lowery also works collaboratively with all vested stakeholders through the School Advisory Council (SAC) and Parent Teach Student Association (PTSA) to facilitate dialogue towards planning and improvement of school wide initiatives.  He works with business partners, the community, and parents to provide priceless experiences to our 5000 Role Models of Excellence and Girlfriends program participants.  He is dedicated to excellence in learning through providing real life experiences to bridge the gap between content being taught in the classroom and how it applies to real life.

Dr. Lowery's mission is to work collaboratively with the school, community, and students to provide a safe learning environment for all while promoting citizenship and lifelong learning.  Through his mission, he believes that it truly takes a village to raise a child.
