Stop paying them



In most places, service on a school board is considered giving back to the community. In Florida, it's a well-paid job that turns policy makers into micromanagers, writes William Bainbridge, CEO of SchoolMatch, a group that audits school districts. "Florida needs to eliminate salaries for school board members and recruit qualified candidates willing to raise the level of Florida school district governance," he concludes in his commentary printed today in the Florida Times-Union.
