Stop those calls and letters
The computer that runs the Pinellas County school district's application program for magnet, fundamental and career academy programs overheated and shut down for five hours right before the deadline this weekend. But that wasn't enough to win an extension for those who might have been electronically turned away. There was a "flurry of phone calls for a short period of time" after the system came back on line, district spokeswoman Andrea Zahn said, but the calls slowed down shortly after. "The phone system was back on line around 4:45 p.m.," Zahn said. "Parents had ample time between 5 and midnight to make calls."
