Study: School uniforms reduce teacher attrition

A new study on school uniforms finds while they have no impact on student discipline or achievement, they do lead to slightly better attendance rates in middle and high schools and "significantly" reduced teacher attrition rates in elementary schools.

Average attrition rates dropped 5 percentage points after elementary schools adopted uniforms, according to the study, conducted by University of Houston researchers and published as a "working paper" by the National Bureau of Economic Research. Pinellas briefly considered a district-wide uniform policy last year.
