Sunlake High School assistant principal abruptly dropped from reappointment list
Usually, the reappointment list for Pasco County schools goes through unchallenged and undiscussed.
This year, the 162-page list of district employees appeared headed for the same fate. Then assistant superintendent Renalia DuBose made a small change.
She asked the School Board to remove the name of Erin Galletta, an assistant principal for Sunlake High School, from consideration. She offered no explanation. Superintendent Heather Fiorentino later said that Galletta is the subject of an unspecified investigation, and her employment will not be considered until the end of that review.
Until then, Galletta is not reemployed for 2011-12.
The board approved that move without question. It did not accept a separate recommendation to stop paying $15,000 toward the salary of a Pasco Education Foundation secretary/bookkeeper, though.
Vice chairman Allen Altman said the proposal to end support of that position in the allocations did not have the foundation's backing. The change also came as a surprise to the board, he added.
"I would think at this point in time we should be assisting the foundation in every way we can, since they are assisting us in raising money," he said.
The board instructed the administration to return the .5 position to the allocations. Chief finance officer Olga Swinson said she would recommend a different way to cut the expense in the coming weeks.
