Support for Bright Futures weakens, Quinnipiac poll shows

Logo_bf_sm Floridians still oppose cutting support for the Bright Futures scholarship program as a way to balance the state budget. But that opposition isn't as strong as in the past, a newly released Quinnipiac University poll of voters shows.

The April 6-13 survey results indicate that 65 percent of respondents do not favor cutting the scholarships, compared to 72 percent in January:

"So too, the idea of raising the standards for the award, although voters oppose the idea 50-39 percent. The idea of means testing the award now gets a split decision with 45 percent supporting the idea and 48 percent opposing it, a change from 50-42 percent opposed in January."

Bright Futures remains in play this session. Maybe this poll will provide lawmakers some needed guidance.
