Survey: Florida residents not happy with schools
This won't surprise anybody, but yet another survey shows Floridians think Florida schools stink. The latest, from the Florida Chamber of Commerce, finds more respondents would give Florida schools a D or F grade (33 percent) than an A or B (27 percent). Asked the same kind of question in a different way - what percent of Florida schools deserve an F grade - the average response was 40 percent.
Ouch. Didn't Education Week say Florida schools were 10th in the nation?
As we reported over the weekend, the survey also found most residents had a favorable impression of Race to the Top (at least in how it was described to them by the surveyors). In other findings:
* 73 percent of respondents said Florida schools are not adequately funded
* More of them had an unfavorable view of the Florida Department of Education (43 percent) vs. a favorable one (37 percent)
