Survey says...Pinellas staff climate survey results are back!

13

March

Pinellas County has published the bulk of its results of its controversial 2012 staff climate survey.

Check it out here. It's a ton of data to comb through, but here are a few findings findings from our cursory look at the information provided by the 4,285 employees who responded:

* Confidence in the ability of superintendent exceeds confidence in school board members, 75.9 percent to 62.7 percent, respectively.

* At the same time, employees disagreed (more than they disagreed with any other question on the survey) with the statement that "district leadership considers input from stakeholders before making decisions that affect my school." Only 43.5 percent said they agreed while 56.4 percent said they disagree.

* Principals got high marks: 79.4 percent trust their principal's decision making process, 78.4 percent say their principal is liked and respected, 78.7 percent say principals inspire staff teamwork and 88.6 percent say principals treat them with respect.

* But teachers tended to get the highest marks of the three: 97.9 percent of staff say teachers at their school care and 92.1 percent report their teachers have high expectations.

* Finally, and perhaps not surprisingly, employees tended to rate themselves highest of all. Asked whether they agree with the following "I" statements...."I work effectively with low-achieving students," "I work effectively with an ethnically/socially diverse population of students," and "I work effectively with Limited English speaking," the percentages of respondants who agreed came in at 96.6 percent, 98.5 percent, 95.5 percent and 92.3 percent, respectively.

District spokeswoman Donna Winchester reports her staff will be releasing the full comments portion of the survey shortly.
