Talk, no action, on school board salaries, school prayer
The Florida Senate Pre-K-12 Education Committee took up two controversial issues this afternoon but did not act on either, the Buzz reports.
A proposal to cut school board member salaries to no more than $2,400 a year did not move after two members -- one Democrat, one Republican -- raised concerns about the idea.
A second bill to allow middle and high school students to organize school prayers generated some lively debate, but also got no vote as chairman Steve Wise temporarily postponed the measure amid contentions it would be unconstitutional.
Neither concept is currently in play in the House.
