Teacher accused of FCAT miscues accepts 5-day suspension

Migdalia Mojica, a teacher at Pasco County's Irvin Education Center alternative school, initially furiously denied that she had done anything wrong when she sent an email and recorded misbehaving students in the room where she was proctoring the 2012 FCAT.

She contested superintendent Heather Fiorentino's recommended punishment of a 10-day unpaid suspension. She even challenged Fiorentino's revision to a five-day suspension.

On Tuesday, though, Mojica did a 180. After Fiorentino agreed to modify her formal discipline letter on Mojica, removing mention of an unrelated spring incident at the school and making classroom management courses voluntary instead of mandatory, the teacher quietly accepted her five-day suspension.

The School Board, having no appeal left to hear, closed its called hearing without reviewing a single document or listening to any testimony. Mojica will return to Irvin.
