Thanks, but no thanks: Big names not interested in Florida commissioner job

images.jpgimages_1.jpgStrike the name of Tom Luna, Idaho's superintendent of public instruction, from the list of possibilities to replace outgoing Florida education commissioner Gerard Robinson.

Luna, who told the Idaho Statesman that Gov. Rick Scott's office contacted him a year ago about the vacancy, said he has the same answer this year.

"I love Idaho, and the work we are doing here is the most exciting in the country," Luna told the paper. "I’m happy where I am, and I’m staying here."

Forget about Rhode Island commissioner Deborah Gist, too. The former Hillsborough County teacher told the Gradebook through a spokesman that she "is not a candidate" for Florida commissioner.

We have yet to hear how the Board of Education will proceed with its search, or whether it will take advantage of a free repeat by Ray and Associates as provided in its 2011 contract. Stay tuned.
