Education news and notes from Tampa Bay and Florida

That'll be $2

imgres.jpegHas it really gotten so bad? So bad that an Orange County high school actually charged $2 per student to raise funds for its student government association.

Apparently so

Making matters worse, the Orlando Sentinel reports, the SGA used $350 of the $2,000 collected to rent a convertible Corvette to ride in a parade.

A dad complained of this "shakedown," and the district agreed that charging admission to events during school hours is prohibited. The school had to refund the cash to anyone who asked for their money back.

This story makes us wonder just how prevalent such activities really are. Has your school tried some similar fund raising effort? We'd love to hear about it.
