More than 1,000 Florida teachers converge upon downtown Tampa today and through the weekend for the Florida Education Association's 122nd annual assembly.
They'll talk business and an awful lot of politics, with guests and speakers including U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink and U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, national co-chair of Barack Obama's presidential campaign.
Won't they be missing school, you wonder? Nope. Friday is the state's "inservice day" for all districts, so schools are closed. If you need a teacher, head to the Waterside Marriott or the Tampa Convention Center.
