Thirty-one candidates vying for Hernando superintendent position
Thirty-one candidates so far have submitted their applications to replace retiring
The application period, which lasted for more than two months, ended at
Among those applying are Ken Pritz and Sonya Jackson, Hernando's two assistant superintendents.
Both applied for the superintendent position before ultimately losing to Blavatt.
The two assistant superintendents now split the job of overseeing most of the district’s departments.
Pritz is is in charge of teaching and learning, and is responsible for working with principals, overseeing the technology department, the district’s instructional TV network, adult education, the curriculum department and the department of school improvement.
Jackson is in charge of student support operations, including student support services, exceptional student education, transportation, facilities, maintenance, and safety and security.
All the applications will now go to School Board members and a citizen search committee for review.
The School Board is slated to choose finalists by Feb. 19, selecting a candidate a month later.
The new superintendent will begin July 1.
