Thurgood Marshall principal headed to Hillsborough
Jackson informed the district yesterday of his plans, said Superintendent John Stewart. “I just feel terrible that this is happening,” Stewart said. “I did my very best to talk him out of it, but he said he wanted to make a change in his career.”
Jackson’s last day in Pinellas is Jan. 20, Stewart said.
The Hillsborough School Board voted today to make Jackson the new principal at Martinez Middle. His start date is Jan. 23.
Jackson is in his 16th year in Pinellas. His annual salary is $76,033 plus a $3,000 supplement for his doctoral degree.
It was not immediately clear what his salary will be in Hillsborough.
Update at 8:07 p.m.: A salary for Jackson in Hillsborough hasn't been determined yet, said district spokeswoman Linda Cobbe. But assistant superintendent for administration Lewis Brinson is recommending he be given five years experience credit, which would put his salary at about $85,000.
