Is the time ripe for school bus ads in Florida?
If at first you don't succeed ... This recent brief in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reminded us that Florida lawmakers are trying again to allow advertising on the sides of school buses. An effort to do that failed last spring, but lawmakers have introduced several similar bills (HB 19, SB 344, SB 348) for next year's session.
A co-sponsor of the House bill, Rep. Irv Slosberg, D-Boca Raton, told the Sun-Sentinel the ads could raise $100 million for schools. That sounds pretty optimistic considering this Fox 13 News piece from March, which quotes a guy in the bus ad biz saying a district as big as Hillsborough might swat down a million. Either way, would anyone bet against odds of passage in another tight budget year? (Image from commercialfreechildhood.org)
