Two Pasco principals win promotions

Two Pasco County school principals who have turned around achievement at their formerly F-rated schools will be moving to the district office so they can help others make similar accomplishments, superintendent Kurt Browning announced Tuesday.

Monica Ilse, principal at Anclote High School, will be the district's third learning community executive director. She joins David Scanga and Beth Brown in that newly established job, in which the executive directors will oversee regional groups of schools. Browning created four K-12 regions shortly after taking over the superintendency. One post remains unfilled.

Kara Smucker, principal at Gulf Highlands Elementary, will become one of two new principal coaches. Browning said he will use Race to the Top funds to pay for that new position. "We need to be giving some of our principals more support," he said. Smucker, who has a background in professional development, would begin the job at the end of the school year.

Both appointments go to the School Board for approval on Tuesday.
