Two Pasco schools to get new principals
John Long Middle School and Shady Hills Elementary School need new leaders.
Pasco schools superintendent Heather Fiorentino has picked Beth Brown, from Long Middle, to serve as executive director of secondary schools, and Tom Barker, from Shady Hills Elementary, to be executive director of elementary schools. Brown started working for Pasco schools in 1991 and has been an administrator since 1999. Barker joined the district in 1995 and became an administrator in 1999.
"I look forward to working with him," assistant superintendent-elementary David Scanga said of Barker, the current district elementary principal of the year. "He will be very helpful."
Assistant superintendent-secondary Tina Tiede said she looked forward to having Brown join her team.
"I've been alone since it seems like forever, ever since that person I thought of as a near and dear partner ran out on me," Tiede said, referring to former assistant superintendent Jim Davis. "Beth has been a principal of the year for the district and she has really had a lot of leadership roles in the district. ... Not only is she going to help lead our new principals but also our principals who have been around a long time. They all respect her and I do too."
The two posts involve evaluating principals and implementing educational programs, among several other responsibilities. One of the job requirements is having experience as a principal.
The School Board approved the appointments Tuesday evening. The administration hopes to fill the principal positions before the start of classes in August.
