UF, ESPN team up with SEC schools to keep 'student' in 'student athlete'
Who says big football schools are all play and no work?
UF and its 11 fellow SEC universities are teaming up with ESPN to promote the institutions' research and academic success through a new Web site, the SEC Academic Network.
“This truly keeps the ‘student’ in ‘student-athlete,’ and I know (athletic director) Jeremy Foley is as excited about it as I am,” said UF president Bernie Machen.
Visitors to UF’s page will find videos demonstrating research highlights -- from air-cooled shoulder pads for football players to a robotic car and, of course, Gatorade.
The Web site, secacademicnetwork.com was launched last week.
The Academic Network is part of the SEC’s 15-year television package with ESPN.
