The Pinellas Classroom Teachers Association and the Pinellas Educational Support Personnel Association, through their Political Action Committee, have endorsed Jack Latvala in the race for Senate District 16.
Jack Latvala has been a Florida resident for almost 50 years and is a successful small business-owner and accomplished legislative leader. Latvala served in the Florida Senate from 1994 to 2002. During 1998-2000, he served as Senate Majority Leader and had a reputation as a tough and unwavering warrior on behalf of his causes and constituents.
“In his previous tenure in the Florida Senate, Senator Latvala always stood tall for public schools and the students in Pinellas County,” said PCTA President Kim Black. “He was a leader in the Senate and found bipartisan solutions rather than allowing partisan politics to influence the outcome. We whole-heartedly endorse Jack Latvala for Senate, District 16. ”
Latvala, during his service in the Florida Senate, was consistently ranked in the Top 10 Senators in effectiveness by an annual Miami Herald poll and was cited as a rising star by the Wall Street Journal. He was the recipient of the Florida Education Association Friend of Education Award along with almost 100 other honors and awards for his legislative service and accomplishments. He served as Senate chairman of numerous legislative committees including Government Oversight, Banking and Insurance, and Natural Resources.
“Jack Latvala understands Tallahassee and the Florida Senate and will arrive with the knowledge of how to get things done for the betterment of all Floridians,” added Marshall Ogletree, PCTA-PESPA Executive Director.
