Union: Pinellas wants to nix early release Wednesdays
From a statement PCTA sent to members following this morning's bargaining session with the district:
In negotiations today, the District, on behalf of the School Board, rejected several key proposals from PCTA. Of significant importance:
* Rejection of the PCTA proposed language regarding Trade Days.
* Rejection of the PCTA proposal for a $250.00 training supplement for instructional staff.
* Rejection of the PCTA proposal for a mid-year step increase.
Additionally, the District has proposed elimination of Article XXXVII Section D. Early Release Days.
Following negotiations, PCTA President Kim Black stated, “During a strained financial situation, it is difficult to comprehend why the District wants to take back valuable, long-standing practices that do not have a financial impact, but do go a long way in providing teachers and students the time necessary to meet their professional requirements. These practices are related to professional development, planning and much needed time with parents and colleagues in order to meet the needs of our students. PCTA does not agree with the District’s position and will continue to work to resolve these and other critical issues, such as teacher appraisal, that are currently on the bargaining table.”
Negotiations will continue later this month.
