Upset over changing standards
Florida's teacher union is taking issue with a House proposal to dump the Sunshine State Standards in favor of "World Class Education Standards." While supporting the general concept, the Florida Education Association is none too thrilled with the specifics in what it is calling "hastily drawn" language to do it. The group complains that the bill, if passed, would require teachers to pass a competency test on the new standards to renew their certification. It also frets that teachers didn't get adequate input during the discussion, which next heads to the Schools and Learning Council. The union is urging its members to blitz council members with e-mails.
