USEP to members: It's time to get active

27

August

With the Republican National Convention about to launch, and the general election just two months off, the United School Employees of Pasco is encouraging its members to involved in the process.

Union vice president Kenny Blankenship sent a memo Friday to members suggesting it's "time to get active" in the vote. He asked for at least 10 activists to volunteer at least six hours of time between the RNC and Nov. 6.

"Of course, we will always welcome more than 10!!!" Blankenship wrote. "We will be doing various activities such as walking precincts and phone banking to encourage and motivate our members to get to the polls and vote! This will entail participating in no more than one event each week. If we have more than ten (like 20) participate, then we can reduce the amount of events that we need to be individually involved in."

While stressing that the objective is to get out the vote on a "very important election," Blankenship carefully avoided naming any candidates or causes — the USEP's political arm Tiger Pride takes care of the endorsement and contribution end. But USEP leaders have been seen sporting Obama buttons around town. School Board elections are settled, although likely superintendent winner Kurt Browning still faces a lone write-in candidate, and the Penny for Pasco extension still must be decided. Wonder if the Tiger Pride's coming endorsements and the USEP election activities will keep an arm's length.
