USF among "coolest schools," says Sierra Club
"Did you know, USF is now one of the coolest schools?" University of South Florida president Judy Genshaft bragged on Monday, while welcoming students back for their first day on campus. It was more than hyperbole. This was backed up by fact, Genshaft said.
She was talking about a new ranking from the environmentally minded Sierra Club, which listed more than 100 schools that did a good job of promoting sustainability on their campuses. USF was No. 47. The only other Florida school included was the University of North Florida at No. 96. Click here to see the full list.
"Two years ago, we didn’t even make the top 100, so this is a terrific accomplishment for our students, faculty, and staff," the director of USF's office of sustainability, Christian Wells, wrote in an e-mail to the school's provost this week. "Green is gold at USF!"
It is worth noting that the Sierra Club only ranked schools that completed 12-page questionnaires. Of 940 schools the club invited to participate, 118 responded.
