USF curtails alcohol sales at new campus hot spot
Realizing that the availability of beer and wine from 11 a.m. to midnight at its new on-campus hot spot violates one of its own policies, USF officials have limited the sale of alcohol at Beef ‘O’Brady’s to after 6 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends.
The decision comes less than a week after the sports bar opened in the new Marshall Student Center. But the policy dictating that no USF student or employee is allowed to report to class or work under the influence of drugs or alcohol has been in effect since 1993.
"Everyone was excited about having a pub on campus without thinking through that it would run up against that policy," USF spokesman Michael Hoad said. "We either abide by our policy or we decide that it’s not a policy we want to live with. For now, the decision is that we’re going to stand by it."
