USF Poly meets today amid separation speculation
To split or not to split? That's the big question surrounding USF Polytechnic these days. The final decision rests with the Board of Governors, overseers of the state's current 11 universities, and the legislature, of course. But first, USF Polytechnic will have to make a presentation to the BOG at a meeting this month.
Today the board of that Lakeland campus will meet via conference call to discuss just that. Here's the agenda.
The presentation was requested by BOG chairwoman Ava Parker a few weeks ago, after she got a letter from Polk County business and governmental leaders pushing for USF Poly to become its own independent university. It's a move also hailed by J.D. Alexander, the powerful senate budget chairman who championed a push for funding USF Poly's new building during the last legislative session.
Marshall Goodman, chancellor of USF Poly, was tapped by USF President Judy Genshaft to address Parker and the rest of the BOG at its meeting Sept. 14 and 15.
