USF student leader investigated in alleged office alcohol incident
USF administrators are investigating allegations that students were drinking inside the campus office of student body president Barclay Harless (left) during a welcome event for incoming freshman in June.
Harless told a reporter with the USF student paper, The Oracle, that he and a couple of unnamed friends from his Beta Theta Phi fraternity planned to drink in his office after the Bulls Night Out event on June 14. Alcohol is prohibited in student government offices or other public campus buildings, according to USF policy.
Harless maintains he never actually took a drink, though administrators confronted him outside his office that night after hearing rumors that he smelled of alcohol.
Harless conceded to the Oracle that he was not upfront in his first meeting with administrators, and they're looking into whether he gave misleading statements.
