USF's Genshaft: No Golda Meir
USF President Judy Genshaft is one of several university leaders profiled in the summer issue of Jewish Woman magazine , a publication of the charitable organization Jewish Women International.
In the article, Genshaft recalls growing up in Canton, Ohio, where her Russian immigrant father established what would become the largest independent meatpacking company in the country. Working in the family business, “that’s how I knew I would like administrative work,” she says.
She says she "couldn’t do my job if my husband wasn’t the primary caretaker" of their two adolescent sons. She also says people around the world are sometimes surprised to meet here.
"They’re still not used to seeing women leaders, particularly younger or more attractive ones. I mean, I don’t look like Golda Meir.”
