Virtual school changes on list of state BOE legislative priorities
Florida Board of Education members this morning unanimously approved adopting a list of 2012 legislative priorities that include giving Florida Virtual School the authority to operate like a school district, and moving FLVS's governor-appointed board of trustees under the oversight of the state Board of Education.
Board members also agreed to ask legislators to change the criteria by which schools are designated for the state's lowest-performing category by making the entrance criteria for a school solely dependent on whether it has an F grade. Currently, entrance also includes whether or not students in the school have made "adequate yearly progress."
