Watch for black sedans, short School Board meeting in Pasco

imgres.jpegPasco School Board members will be keeping one eye keenly on the clock today as they convene their regularly scheduled meeting at 9:30 a.m.

They want to get out quickly, so they can head over to Oakstead Elementary School, where Vice President Joe Biden will be visiting classes and speaking to about 150 invited guests about the Obama Administration's new jobs bill.

While the board has not yet canceled its post-meeting workshop, which includes topics such as teacher evaluations and school improvement plans, it's likely to halt the session early to make the drive to the school for Biden's scheduled 12:30 p.m. speech.

Parents should be okay dropping kids off this morning, district officials said, as media arrival time is set for 10 a.m. and the VP isn't slated to show until later. But trying to get near campus around lunch time could be perilous at best with all the security, news vans, visitor cars and the like. So it might be a day to let your kids eat cafeteria food.

We'll be at Oakstead this morning to cover the event and bring updates as possible. Biden made a similar trip to a Miami school to tout the jobs plan last month.
