What is it about those Silly Bandz?
Why do elementary kids go nuts for colored rubber bands in the shapes of animals, cars, letters of the alphabet and the like? They trade them and relish the growing number of them on their wrists.
Obviously, they must be bad and should be banned. Right?
Well, a growing number of schools including Omni Middle in Boca Raton consider the Silly Bandz a distraction and have ordered them gone, just like Pokemon cards and Bakugan balls before them, as the Sun-Sentinel reports.
We can't help but wonder if the Bandz banners have it all wrong, though. We've met teachers and counselors who find the inexpensive items a cheap way to reward students, winning continued respect for knowing what kids like and letting them have their rubber bands. The kids then generally say they won't abuse the privilege because their teachers are being cool.
