What Pinellas parents, teachers say about 'family engagement'
Pinellas parents want more up-to-date academic information on Portal and say elementary schools engage them better than middle and high schools, according to a recently released district survey about family engagement. Many teachers, meanwhile, say parental involvement should be mandatory.
More than 1,500 teachers, 738 parents and 187 administrators completed the survey earlier this year. A 17-page report on it, including a summary of results and a long list of recommendations, was included in the latest "Friday Update" newsletter to school board members. It's attached below.
Question-by-question results were not included, so it's not clear in many cases how strongly respondents felt about a particular item. It's also unclear from the summary how parents were notified and asked to participate (we bring this up because the response rate for parents seems particularly low.)
A copy of the survey form for parents is also attached below.
