What they're saying about the House budget

April

A sampling of the comments Tuesday, as the House Full Appropriations Council on Education & Economic Development took up the preK-12 budget:

Rep. Anitere Flores, R-Miami: "The fact is that we have less money. I don't know how else to say it."

Rep. Marty Kiar, D-Davie: "It's almost like playing Russian roulette with our kids' education."

Rep. John Legg, R-Port Richey: "At least we did what they (educators) requested and actually held education harmless."

Rep. Ron Saunders, D-Key West: Stimulus dollars "bailed out butts out. ... We would not have had an increase in (per-student) funding but not for those federal dollars."

Rep. Kurt Kelly, R-Ocala: "Did I get everything I wanted? No. Neither did anyone."
