What's going on at Largo Middle?
We've written a lot about John Hopkins Middle School in recent days, but obviously it's not the only Pinellas County middle school dealing with discipline problems. There's a lot of recent buzz, especially, about Largo Middle, as this recent email to Pinellas district officials suggests:
"I am shocked by the complete chaos I observed. The most disturbing and heartbreaking of all, are the MULTIPLE arrests of students, nearly every week, that I've witnessed directly, and that are reported to me by student or other parents. My student has been knocked down in the hallway during fights, has had to run for safety on multiple occasions, and has to endure the constant threat of violent eruptions and disruptions."
We heard a number of Largo Middle parents had written emails to the district making similar claims. But when we requested them, the district said the above email was the only record that could be released and that the others were exempt under the state's public records laws.
So, is there anything to this? Is this letter representative of other parents and their concerns - or not?
