Where fundamental and magnet applicants come from
Background material for Tuesday's Pinellas school board workshop includes a nifty set of charts that show the number of parents from different school zones who submitted first-choice applications last spring for magnet and fundamental elementary schools.
At first glance, some numbers jump out. Lots of Lakewood parents, for example, applied to Bay Vista Fundamental (43), Lakeview Fundamental (18), Baypoint (22), Perkins (22) and Sanderlin (17). But how much are the big numbers a function of geography? Desirability of the choice programs? Dissatisfaction with the zoned school?
Any other numbers calling out for attention?
