Where in the world is Eric Smith?
Since leaving Tallahassee, Eric J. Smith's name has popped up from time to time in education policy conversations, with the title "former Florida education commissioner" attached.
Some of you have questioned whether Smith, well regarded in national education reform circles, has landed a new gig yet, and if so, where.
We caught up with Smith this week, and he tells us he and his family have relocated to Annapolis, Md., where he bases his education consulting business while considering more permanent work.
"I am doing a fair amount of work around the country with states and so forth, and some districts. I am enjoying that a bit," he told the Gradebook. "I don't have any real definite plans at this point of what my next move is going to be. I'm still exploring a lot of options."
Florida remains part of his future, Smith added: "I do intend to find a way to keep my residence in Florida, but it won't be in the form of a superintendency. I love the state. It has been a big part of my life. We don't know exactly where, but we probably will be relocating in Florida someplace in the very near future."
