White will join Kemple's Sept. 11 program
Sept. 11 is weeks away with a Republican convention ahead of it.
But, fresh from a strong showing in last week's Hillsborough County School Board primary, Terry Kemple is planning a full day of programming -- and the lineup includes sitting school board member Dr. Stacy White.
Check out the evite to the Sept. 11 press conference, rally and evening program about the influence of Islam.
Just how strong is White's involvement? "I have agreed to briefly address the audience at the press conference portion," he said Monday.
Since January, Kemple has led a movement to ban the Council on American-Islamic Relations from Hillsborough classrooms. His efforts have brought speakers to the school board meetings, some complaining about the Islamic advocacy organization and others about Islam itself.
The board was about to settle the issue on Aug. 9 with a compromise that would have parents give consent for all outside speakers, not just CAIR. White moved to table the matter until the Sept. 11 meeting - not a hard sell, as Superintendent MaryEllen Elia wanted to get some feedback from school sites.
Realizing later how high emotions would be on that day, member April Griffin had the item taken off the Sept. 11 agenda.
On Aug. 14, Kemple came in second in a crowded race for Carol Kurdell's districtwide seat. The two face a runoff on Nov. 6.
