Who said science was boring?
As of yesterday at 4 p.m., the state's proposed new science standards – the ones that actually mention the word "evolution" - had spawned 9,688 comments from 6,125 people, according to the latest tally from the Department of Education.
The DOE hasn't separated yeas from nays, but a couple of published reports (including this one in the Lakeland Ledger, about a school board member who wants intelligent design to be taught) say the vast majority rating the standards are giving them a thumbs up (maybe even a Panda's thumb up?). To see all the comments posted by Nov. 2, click here. To see the standards yourself, and post your own comments, click here. You have until Dec. 14 to officially weigh in.
Oh, and if you were planning to comment in person at a public hearing in Tampa next week, fuhgeddaboutit! That meeting has been canceled.
