Who is Suzie Creamcheese?
She's running a 6-week-old blog called the Wall (think Pink Floyd, as in, Another Brick in the Wall) that's feeding on the frustrations of Hillsborough County high school teachers who are, shall we say, upset about a plan to significantly change their work days. (Read this story if you missed their confrontation with the School Board.)
Well, this anonymous Suzie is predicting that Tuesday's outcry will pale in comparison to the fuming that will follow the implementation of superintendent MaryEllen Elia's proposal to have teachers teach six periods a day instead of five. "If this schedule change goes through the Board will be dealing with teacher stress and burnout in October - NOT April. What the public saw on Tuesday was a glimpse into the hearts of caring people who KNOW they are being saddled with an impossible task," Suzie writes.
She's getting a pretty decent response from colleagues around the county who are articulate in their views and ready to shed any apathy that might have led administrators to think the new plan would go down without a struggle. One is planning a rally outside the next School Board meeting. "Time to reorganize," this commenter wrote. "Get the word out. The next school board meeting is in two weeks. Several schools are joining together to create RESPECTFUL signs for a teacher rally starting at 4:30 and ending around 6 in front of the school board building. ... If you are on the fence about attending the next school board (meeting) think fondly of Ms. Edgecomb." As we like to say, stay tuned.
