Wikle files for second term on Pinellas board
Wikle, 49, of Tarpon Springs, is a former teacher of special needs students who came to the district following years as a parent volunteer and community advocate.
First elected in 2008, she has been a strong voice on matters of public transparency. Wikle's was a key vote in the termination of former Superintendent Julie Janssen last year. She was the first to say in June she would support discontinuing Janssen's contract if her leadership didn't improve within two months.
Wikle holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Florida State University. Her three sons are each graduates of Tarpon Springs High, which is also her alma mater.
In recent years, Wikle has also become a passionate advocate for educating youth and parents about the dangers of prescription drug abuse.
So far, Wikle is the only declared candidate for the north Pinellas seat.
